# Site identity

# Site identity

Your site title, tagline, logo, and favicon. Getting these right takes five minutes and immediately separates a real site from a demo.

## Site title and tagline

**Settings → General**

| Field | What to do |
| - | - |
| **Site Title** | Your company or product name. Appears in the browser tab, in search results, and in the theme's structured data. |
| **Tagline** | One line describing what you do. Appears under the title in search results. |
| **WordPress Address (URL)** | The site's canonical address. See the HTTPS note below. |
| **Site Address (URL)** | Usually identical unless the site lives in a subdirectory. |

> [!NOTE]
>
> The theme outputs a `WebSite` structured data block using your site title and tagline. Keeping them accurate helps search engines describe your site correctly.

## The logo

**Appearance → Customize → Site Identity → Logo**

![Screenshot: Customizer → Site Identity with the logo control and media picker](https://mintlify.s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com/vr-it-services-pro/images/screenshots/site-identity-logo.png)

| Guideline | Recommendation |
| - | - |
| **Format** | SVG preferred. PNG with transparency works well. |
| **Width** | 150–250 px for a horizontal wordmark |
| **Height** | Keep the aspect ratio — the theme scales proportionally |
| **File size** | Under 100 KB, ideally under 30 KB |

> [!WARNING]
>
> **WordPress's Site Identity logo is not the same as the theme's footer logo.** Setting one does not set the other. To brand the footer independently, use **Customize → Vara SaaS → Footer → Footer logo**. See [Footer settings](/customization/footer-settings.md).

## Controlling logo size

The theme clamps logo width to keep it from breaking the header. You can adjust it in two places:

| Setting | Where | Range |
| - | - | - |
| **Logo Max Width (px)** | **Customize → Site Identity → Logo** | 50–400 px, default 150 |
| **Footer logo max width (px)** | **Customize → Vara SaaS → Footer** | 40–300 px, default 120 |

> [!TIP]
>
> If your logo is being clipped or is overflowing the header, lower the width first. The theme constrains the logo automatically — a very wide image will be scaled down to fit rather than pushing the menu off screen.

## Favicon and site icon

**Appearance → Customize → Site Identity → Site Icon**

A site icon is the small image shown in browser tabs, bookmarks, and mobile home screens.

| Guideline | Recommendation |
| - | - |
| **Format** | PNG, ICO, or JPEG |
| **Size** | Exactly 512 × 512 px square |
| **Design** | Simple and legible at 16 px — avoid thin text |

![Screenshot: Customizer → Site Identity → Site Icon with the preview at multiple sizes](https://mintlify.s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com/vr-it-services-pro/images/screenshots/site-identity-favicon.png)

> [!NOTE]
>
> WordPress shows a live preview at several sizes, including the 16 px browser tab size. Check it there before you save. An icon that only works at 512 px is not an icon.

## If you don't have a logo yet

If you do not have brand assets ready, you can launch without a logo — the header will simply show your site title as text. Everything else works.

A practical interim approach:

* Set your **Site Title** to your brand
* Skip the logo for now
* Come back to **Appearance → Customize → Site Identity** when assets are ready

**Using a text logo**

The header renders your site title as a heading-level link when no logo image is set. It is
styled consistently with the logo lockup, so swapping between text and image later changes
nothing structurally.

## Where the site title appears

| Location | Appearance |
| - | - |
| Browser tab | Site Title |
| Search results | Site Title, then Tagline as the description |
| WordPress admin bar | Site Title on the front end |
| Structured data | Site Title in the `WebSite` schema block |
| RSS feed | Site Title and Tagline |
| Header | Logo image, or Site Title if no logo is set |
| Footer copyright | Site Title, unless you override the copyright text |

> [!WARNING]
>
> Changing your **Site Title** after launch changes your title tags across the whole site, which can cause a temporary ranking dip as search engines re-evaluate. If you have meaningful organic traffic, plan the change for a low-traffic period and update your SEO plugin's settings at the same time.

## Verify it looks right

**1. View your site in a private window**

A private window bypasses any page cache and shows you what a first-time visitor sees.

**2. Check the header**

Logo or title present, menu readable, CTA buttons pointing somewhere real.

**3. Check the browser tab**

Favicon visible and legible, title correct.

**4. Check mobile**

On a real phone if possible. The header collapses to a toggle button under the mobile breakpoint.
