# FAQ

Quick answers to the questions that come up most often. For anything more specific, the [Troubleshooting](/troubleshooting/index.md) section is symptom-indexed.

## About the theme

> **Is Vara SaaS free? Is there a Pro version?**
>
> Yes, and no. The theme is free and open source under the GPL, distributed on [WordPress.org](https://wordpress.org/themes/vara-saas/). There is no license key, no Pro tier, and no paid add-on. Every feature documented here is included.

> **Do I need Elementor?**
>
> No. The theme works fully with the WordPress block editor. You only need Elementor for the four imported demo page layouts and for visual page building. See [Elementor](/integrations/elementor.md) and [Block editor](/integrations/block-editor.md).

> **Is this a block theme / full site editing theme?**
>
> No. It is a **classic** PHP theme. Your page structure comes from PHP template files, not from block templates. `theme.json` is used to style the block *editor* so blocks match the front end. If you need to edit the header and footer in the site editor, this is not the theme for you.

> **Why can't I attach an Elementor Theme Builder header?**
>
> Because the theme deliberately does not register Elementor Theme Builder locations. Its header and footer are theme PHP, styled through the Customizer. This is a performance and consistency trade-off, not an error. See [Header and menus](/customization/header-and-menus.md).

> **Is it accessible?**
>
> It is marked *accessibility-ready* in the WordPress.org directory, which means it passed the theme review team's accessibility checks. Version 1.0.7 specifically fixed heading hierarchy, landmark duplication, the navigation fallback markup, and text contrast to WCAG 2.2 AA. See [Accessibility](/performance/accessibility.md).

> **Does it make any requests to external servers?**
>
> Not by default. Fonts are self-hosted and bundled. Font Awesome is bundled. There is no telemetry, no remote CSS, and no third-party JavaScript. Anything that phones home is something you installed.

## Setting up

> **The wizard won't install Elementor**
>
> Usually a host restriction on automatic plugin installs. Install Elementor manually from **Plugins → Add New**, then reload the wizard. See [Setup wizard issues](/troubleshooting/setup-wizard-issues.md).

> **Will the demo import overwrite my content?**
>
> It will not touch posts, media, widgets, or any page you created yourself. It **will** change your front page and posts page settings under **Settings → Reading**, and it refreshes the primary menu. Read [Demo content](/introduction/demo-content.md) before importing.

> **Can I re-run the demo import?**
>
> Yes. It reuses the pages it already manages rather than creating duplicates. But it **overwrites the Elementor content** of Home, About, Services, and Contact. Save your work first.

> **My Customizer changes disappeared after an update**
>
> Theme settings live in the database as theme mods, not in theme files, so updates never reset them. If you are seeing this, something else is writing to your settings — usually a caching plugin serving a stale page. See [Settings will not save](/troubleshooting/settings-not-saving.md).

> **Why does my Contact page show a broken form?**
>
> The demo Contact page contains a Contact Form 7 shortcode with a fixed form ID from another site. You need to create a form and re-insert it. See [Contact Form 7](/integrations/contact-form-7.md).

## Customizing

> **Where do I change the colors?**
>
> **Appearance → Customize → Vara SaaS → Global Colors**. Changing them also updates Elementor's global Primary, Secondary, Text, and Accent colors, so your brand propagates into your page layouts automatically. See [Colors](/getting-started/colors.md).

> **Why do my Elementor global colors keep reverting?**
>
> Because the theme writes your Customizer colors into the Elementor Kit on every page load. The Customizer is the single source of truth. Make brand color changes there, not in **Elementor → Site Settings → Global Colors**.

> **How do I change the font?**
>
> **Appearance → Customize → Vara SaaS → Typography**. Pick from six font stacks and set the base size. The theme also self-hosts Inter and JetBrains Mono. See [Typography](/getting-started/typography.md).

> **How do I add an icon to a menu item?**
>
> **Appearance → Customize → Vara SaaS → Navigation Icons**. Font Awesome 6.5.1 is bundled, so no external icon font is needed. See [Navigation icons](/customization/navigation-icons.md).

> **Can I use my own font?**
>
> Yes, but not through the Customizer — the font field is an allowlisted dropdown of six stacks. For a custom font, self-host it and declare it with `@font-face` in a child theme or a custom CSS plugin. See [Child themes](/developers/child-themes.md).

## Content and blog

> **How do I hide the page title?**
>
> **Appearance → Customize → Vara SaaS → General → Show page title**. On pages built with a page builder the theme suppresses its own title automatically, so you usually only need this for plain WordPress pages.

> **Where do I control the blog sidebar?**
>
> Two places. The **site-wide toggle** is in **Customize → Vara SaaS → General → Enable sidebar**. Per page, use the **Sidebar Settings** box in the page editor — it defaults to hidden.

> **How does the table of contents work?**
>
> It is automatic. The theme scans post content for `<h2>` and `<h3>` elements and builds a linked outline, injecting stable anchor IDs. Add headings in the editor and they appear with no configuration. See [Single post settings](/customization/single-post-settings.md).

> **How do related posts get chosen?**
>
> By shared category. The theme runs a query for posts in the same categories as the current one and shows up to two. Publishing into fewer, more consistent categories gives better results than many narrow ones.

> **Can I filter posts by category?**
>
> Yes, out of the box. The blog hero shows your top four categories as filter pills, and the `?vara_cat=` query parameter drives the filtering. The search form preserves the active category. See [Blog and archives](/customization/blog-and-archives.md).

## Troubleshooting and support

> **Where do I report a bug?**
>
> The [support forum on WordPress.org](https://wordpress.org/support/theme/vara-saas/). Include your WordPress and PHP versions, the list of active plugins, and what you expected versus what happened. Screenshots of the Customizer help a lot.

> **Can I translate the theme?**
>
> Yes. The text domain is `vara-saas` and translations are hosted at [translate.wordpress.org](https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-themes/vara-saas). Arabic ships with the theme.

> **Something is broken after an update. What now?**
>
> Start with [Plugin conflicts](/troubleshooting/plugin-conflicts.md) — a plugin conflict is far more likely than a theme regression. If you have a backup, restoring it is faster than bisecting.

## Still stuck?

> Ask the theme author and other users.
